Claygate romped to one of their best wins of the season against Caterham on Sunday.
All hope looked lost as Caterham's 17-year-old opener Tom Arnold thrashed 161 - with a broken bat.
But Portsmouth University student Chris Howe found some fire in a docile pitch to take five for 50 and restrict the visitors to 235 for 7 declared.
Then Howe hit an elegant 70 in the run chase, aided by an innings of 86 from Richard Waller which was every bit as appetising as the sweet meats cooking on the club's evening barbecue.
But although the fiery Caterham quickie McGere induced a collapse, Dick Murphy with 27 not out and Henry Vincent with 16 not out saw Claygate to victory with three wickets and over to spare.
Two of Claygate's teenage prospects had a day to remember as the Sunday second team lost by 50 runs to Concorde.
Eighteen-year-old Jake Dear hit a career-best 61 and 16-year-old Joel Watkins chalked up his maiden half century for the club.
In a drawn Saturday friendly, , Claygate piled up 240 for six against Normandy featuring 72 from Dinesh Reid and 60 not out from young Tom McKinley. Normandy fell narrowly short on 235 for four in a tense finish.
Claygate's colts league side scored a 28-run victory over Whiteley Village with Patrick Conway again in exciting batting form with 31 not out , aided by Robert Darke's stylish 24 and Sam Fairburn's useful 20 not out in a total of 130 for three.
Gray, Kent and Cook all batted well for Whiteley Village, but they could manage onlly 102 for eight, thanks to two wickets apiece for Jamie Pitt and Sam Tonks and a tight spell from Jonny Andrews, who also took a fine catch.
