CLAYGATE CRICKET CLUB EVENTS

3rd/4th May 2008

Claygate start positively

Claygate started their campaign in Division One of the Surrey Downs league in positive style with a winning draw at Capel. Batting first on a very wicket, Claygate made 176 with Vikram Prabakar 46, Dan Maskell 30 and Henry Vincent 29. Retrieving his whites from his car in the car park, new vice skipper Duncan Murphy experienced one of the more bizarre cricket moments extraordinarily being hit on the head by a huge six. It seemingly had a beneficial effect, as Murphy, on his league debut for Claygate went on to take 7- 47 leaving Capel on 162 – 9 at the end of the 90 overs.

The seconds were less fortunate on a badly behaved wicket at Dalmore Avenue. North Holmwood made 111 for 6, Chris Lewis taking 2-20 and Nigel Abbott 2-42. In reply Claygate slumped to 44 all out with Cheeseman taking 8 for 13 exploiting the worsening conditions to the full.

On Sunday, and with no game for the seconds, the firsts faced a competitive all Asian side Ace Arrows.  On a more benign wicket, Arrows posted a competitive 184 for 6, with Luke Webb taking 2-31. After a solid start with opener Matt Holmes posting a useful 34, Claygate accelerated at just the right time with Guyatt and Webb putting on a half century stand for the 5th wicket with Guyatt making 25. Chris Lewis and Dan Maskell then finished off the chase with Lewis nearly reaching his half century with 46 not out.

Claygate CC are looking for young players!

9thMarch 2008

Claygate Cricket Club is about to start its pre-season training for its growing colts section.

Claygate has put considerable effort and investment into developing it’s junior sides – at U11, U12 , U13and U14 levels.

The sides start training this week with nets at Claremont and Reeds Schools.

This winter, Claygate have invested in an all-weather artificial strip at their Dalmore Avenue ground so they will be able to play colts games even after bad weather, or if there is heavy use of the main cricket square. In addition they have now purchased a bowling machine which will give young players the chance to face a whole variety of different bowling.

Claygate will provide coaches to help the children before the season and have already arranged 6 to 8 matches for each side this summer before the school holidays. Anyone who requires further information should get in touch with Russ Guyatt or Pam Jarvis on 01372 471029.

Claygate have just returned from a highly successful tour of South Africa and are also starting senior nets this week at Claremont. If there are any unattached senior players who would be interested in playing regularly please get in touch.

Above is our pavilion,- due for renovation soon. It has a lovely bar.

'what does he know of cricket who only cricket knows'.

This must be the most popular expression in Claygate this year, I have tried to understand it but my conclusion is that is is just another silly point.
