Claygate trounce Newdigate with 8 wicket win!

On a cloudy day with some overnight rain, Newdigate skipper Richard Calcutt won the toss and batted. Claygate's bowling pair of colt Tom Gallyer (1-23 off 9 overs) and Tom Mckinley kept Newdigate under check. On a seaming pitch, Luke Webb and Sanjeewa Wijesekera bowled with control as the innings progressed from 66-2 after 20 overs to 112-3 after 30 overs. Richard Calcutt held one end with a useful 66. The sun came out, off-spinner Nuwan Jayasena (1-55 off 13 overs) contained from Church end to enable skipper Vikram Prabhakar (4-37 off 9.2 overs) reap rewards at the Wood end. At 152 for 6 after 40 overs, Newdigate went for runs as the pitch dried up. A last wicket stand of 41 enabled them to finish at 201 off 47.2 overs.  A Cooper hit three sixes in an unbeaten 35. Colt Tom Gallyer rounded off his excellent bowling performance with two catches and and a run out.

After some excellent tea, Claygate started promisingly against spinners and were 52 for no loss after 10 overs. Lance Mayer hit a mature 52. The innings slowed down against the new ball to 78-2 after 20 overs.  Ben Crooke (1-26 off 10 overs) was the pick of the bowlers. Chris Howe (66*) and Scott Kanther (44*) then accelerated and at 140-2 overs, the asking rate was less than 5 runs an over. Eighteen runs in the 32nd over tilted the balance decisively. Claygate finished off comfortably to win by eight wickets with more than two overs to spare. 38 points from the game and the title hunt is on.
