Claygate 1st XI v Thames Ditton, Home, 26th April 2010

Claygate lose to strong Thames Ditton side

Against a strong Thames Ditton side boosted by a number of 1st XI players, Claygate lost their second warm-up game of the season at Dalmore Avenue on Saturday.

Having won the toss and electing to bat, the home side made a flying start and at 59 for 1 after 10 overs looked well set. However the brakes were applied by the spinners and wickets fell, Claygate sliding to 90 for 5 after 24 overs.

On his debut, Ross Carmichael made a useful 32, Dave Meers a solid 33, but the backbone of the innings was David Price who finished unbeaten on 41 as the 45 over innings closed with Claygate on 200 for 7.

Thames Ditton also had a flying start, but three quick wickets slowed them to 71 for 3.

Three dropped catches proved crucial as the beneficiary Dave Wakely guided the innings with 41 not out, along with Neil Heptanstall who scored a quick 55 for the away side to reach 201 in 36 overs for the loss of only 5 wickets. Nuwan was the pick of the home bowlers with 2 for 21 from 7 overs.

Claygate’s campaign in the Surrey Downs League Division Two starts next Saturday against Albury.
