Welcome to Claygate Cricket Club - 125 years of history!

Both Claygate sides falter

Claygate couldn’t break their jinx at Inholms Lane this weekend loosing to a competitive North Holmwood side and now lie third in the league.

Choosing to bowl first, Claygate managed to contain
North Holmwood as they crawled to 94 for 2 off 30 overs. Nuwan Jayasena (3-39 off 15 overs) and Skipper Vikram Prabhakar (3-42) were the pick of bowlers as the innings progressed to 141 for 5 after 45 overs. A flurry of runs in the last three overs enabled the home side to reach 188 for 8 off the maximum possible 48 overs.

With a strong batting line up, an asking rate of 4.5 off 42 overs looked achievable. However in a repeat performance of last year, none of the top seven contributed substantially. Four batsmen scored more than 20 but couldn’t convert their start to a big score. The innings subsided off the second last ball of the match to leave Claygate at 146 all out. Richard Waller top scored with 30 followed by Chris Howe with 26.

Claygate now face second placed South Nutfield at home in the last game of the first half of the season.

The seconds also lost, this time thanks to a talented Australian all-rounder! Visitors Shere made a massive 303 for 5 in 43 overs at
Dalmore Avenue, with Whitcombe knocking up 111 not out in rapid time. It was a league debut for Claygate’s 16 year-old Jake Harris. but none of the bowlers could contain the rampant Australian.

Claygate replied with a disappointing 151 all out in 43.2 overs, with top scorer Scott Labacik making an excellent 46, The only other resistance was from Russ Guyatt and Rufus Legg who batted 26 and 22 overs respectively to try and salvage a draw, but Whitcombe waded in again, dispatching the tail with 4 for 7 and Claygate were all out with 3.4 overs remaining.
