A flat green but wet Dalmore Avenue wicket did not deter Claygate firsts from choosing to bat first against South Park Manor.
Ross Carmichael (153* with 23 fours and 3 sixes) played the finest knock seen by his skipper (Vikram Prabhakar) over the last decade for a Claygate side and Lance Mayer (71 with 12 fours and a six) put on 185 runs for the opening wicket in 26.2 overs. Ross' chanceless knock contained some lovely drives, brutal lofted shots which cleared the fence and smart running between the wickets as the field scattered to the onslaught. Claygate's merry way continued with Sahan Wijesekera (39 with 8 fours) and Chris Howe (26) assisting Ross to enable a declaration at 318 for 3 after 40 overs.
After tea, off-spinner Nuwan Jayasena (4 for 23 off 10.2 overs) and Skipper Vikram Prabhakar (1 for 13 off 4 overs) started the slide for South Park Manor as they limped to 27 for 4 after 11 overs. Luke Webb (2 for 36 off 6 overs), Sanjeewa Wijetunge (2 for 17 off 5 overs) and Joel Watkins (1-30 off 5 overs) then came to the party. Despite a fighting 98 runs added for the seventh wicket and eighth wicket, South Park's innings folded at 146 after 31.2 overs. Ben Lane provided the champagne moment by clinging on to a steepler at long on after running back for about 15 yards.
Claygate accrued a maximum 40 points from this game and now play away at Capel next weekend.
