Claygate edge to second win of the
season
There were some fine
individual performances this weekend as Claygate 1st XI notched up their
second win of the season.
Away at South Park
Manor on a dry pitch, Claygate won the toss and fielded first. New recruit
Sanjeev Wijethunga rocked the top order with quality swing bowling taking 5-33
including a hat-trick and Luke Webb (2-14) provided good support. South Park crumbled to 96 all out.
The underprepared pitch also crumbled and Claygate followed suit at 67-6, with
batsmen throwing wickets away playing expansive shots on a pitch that asked for
graft. Batting together, Henry Vincent and Duncan Murphy won the game for a
second week in succession as Claygate struggled to 99-8 and 30 points, for an
uninspiring win. Imran bowled unchanged from one end to finish with 6-39 off 11
overs.
The 1sts play against Capel next week on what will surely be a better prepared
pitch.
It was Capel’s second team that faced Claygate 2nds
this weekend.
Claygate lost the toss and were invited to bat on what
looked like a excellent wicket and amassed 265/6, declaring after 43 over. Star of the show was Dave Price (124) making
his maiden century for the club, Damian Ross (40) and debutant Steve Hair (24
no) supported well.
In
reply, Capel never got going loosing wickets at regular intervals finishing on164/9.
Adrian Smith claimed the clubs second ‘fivefor’ for the weekend (5/48), and Steve
Hair picked up two. But Claygate struggled to take the last wicket and Capel
hung on to claim the draw.
