Claygate v Salfords - 28th August
Having won the title in the previous week, Claygate opted to bat first after winning the toss against Salfords on a wet Dalmore Avenue wicket under overcast conditions.
Claygate were quickly reduced to 8 for 2 and a first ball life for Sahan Wijesekera proved expensive for Salfords as Ross Carmichael (102 not out, 11 fours, 4 sixes) and Sahan Wijesekera (155 retired, 22 fours, 4 sixes) put the bowling attack to the sword. A missed stumping when Sahan was 98 and an easy drop at slip when Ross was 53 did not help Salfords. Both were involved in a 245 run partnership for the 3rd wicket, an all time Claygate record for any wicket. A minor slump followed by a late flurry of runs enabled Claygate to declare at 300 for 5 after 42 overs.
Salfords were never in the hunt and after an opening experiment with spin, the Claygate medium pace bowlers called the shots. Luke Webb (4 for 14 off 9 overs) was ably supported by promising colt Rob Carnegie Brown (3 for 22 off 4.3 overs) as Salfords lost wickets regularly to subside to 94 all out. The highest scorer was Mr Extras with 22 runs.
Disappointingly the 2nd XI lost in an away game against the bottom of league Salfords by 8 wickets.
Post the match, the end of season curry was well attended. A court was held and the "Judge" dearly penalised offenders passing Sambuca sentences.
This weekend marks the end of a successful league season for both the league teams. The Ist XI finished as champions and are promoted back to the First Division for 2011. The IInd XI finished third after a fine display during the season.
