22 May v Old Woking – Match report
Away at Old Woking, Claygate won the toss on a sunny day and elected to bat. An aggressive 112 by Ross Carmichael with 11 fours and 6 sixes formed the basis of an 89 run second wicket stand with Lance Mayer who scored 46 and and an 85 run fourth wicket stand with Dave Price who scored 26. At 188 for 3 after 36 overs, Claygate were poised to accelerate but excellent bowling by the new ball bowlers in their second spell restricted Claygate to 223 for 6 after 45 overs and in effect saved the day for Old Woking as an early declaration would have put pressure on the Old Woking tail.
Old Woking were never in the hunt and an excellent burst of medium pace bowling by Simon Pitt with 4 for 50 left Old Woking on the defensive. However Paul Edwards held the middle order through getting out in the last over for 51 to Vikram Prabhakar who finished with 2 for 20. Old Woking finished at 192 for 8 leaving Claygate with a winning draw.
Claygate play Capel II next weekend. Crunch games in the first three weekends in June against Nutfield, Tadworth and North Holmwood will determine how Claygate finish the first half of the league.
