Claygate power on!

On a rain affected day at Dalmore Avenue, Brockham Green surprisingly chose to bat first in a game reduced to 75 overs. On a seaming pitch, they were quickly in trouble as Luke Webb (2-20 off 7 overs) and Duncan Murphy (3-41 off 8 overs) had them at 28 for 4 from just 11 overs. A fifth wicket stand of 48, and later on an easing pitch a ninth wicket stand of 45, were the two key partnership with John Ellis top scoring with 50 and veteran Mark Ellis  with 41*.  Skipper Vikram Prabhakar (2-26 off 8 overs) and Vice-Captain Henry Vincent (2-17 off 5 overs) polished off the tail to leave Claygate a target of 158 from 36 overs.

In reply, Claygate started slowly and were 27 for 1 after 10 overs. Ross Carmichael then opened up and bludgeoned 4 sixes and 13 fours to score a match-winning century (100) in a 135-run second wicket stand with Alan Frewer(40 not out). Champagne moment was a six pulled to the furthest boundary by Carmichael. Claygate achieved the target with 8 wickets and 4 overs to spare.

Claygate next face their most important game in the first half of the season away against league leaders North Holmwood.

The 2nd XI could only draw, but are still top of Surrey Downs Division 3 by 21 points.

In conditions that looked like they would benefit the bowlers but proved the reverse,  Claygate were put in and complied an excellent 269 for 5 declared in 44 overs. Scott Kanther continued his rich seam of form with 87, and together with fellow Aussie Steve Hair making his maiden century for the club (102 not out) produced a partnership of 176 for the 3rd wicket.

Old Woking were contained by tighter Claygate bowling with Nigel Abbott 1/34 returning the best figures. Difficult chances were put down denying Claygate the small opportunity of a win, Old Woking finishing on 232 for 6 in 46 overs.
