Claygate win first game of season against Division 2 new boys

Claygate produced a strong bowling display to claim their first win of the season in Surrey Downs Division 2 comfortably beating newly promoted Woldingham Village.

In cloudy conditions Woldingham’s decision to put Claygate in to bat looked to have paid off as Claygate slumped to 40 for 4. Claygate recovered through an excellent partnership between Lance Mayer, who scored a brisk 63 with Henry Vincent propping up the other end.

Simon Pitt on his debut for Claygate’s 1^st team scored and impressive 42 to get the innings back on track. Captain Vikram Prabhakar moved the total along with some good straight hitting allowing Claygate to declare after 43 overs on 228 for 9.

Woldingham looked to be out off the game reaching 40 for 2 after 22 overs but an excellent hard hitting by J Tozer kept them in the hunt until he holed out to long on for 82. Simon Pitt capped a fine performance with some excellent pace bowling finishing with 5 for 46. Prabhakar, who took 3 for 22, took the final wicket with the away side 34 runs short.
