12th June v Tadworth
On a cloudy day after rain during the week, league leaders Tadworth won the toss and elected to field.
After the early moisture had dried out, Claygate proved the decision wrong with some sensible batting on another batting paradise due to Fergie's continuing excellent work on the square. A 106 run second wicket stand between Ross Carmichael (82) and Lance Mayer with a quick 48, laid the platform for two more substantial stands - a 79 run third wicket stand between Ross and newcomer Sahan Wijeretene and a 104 run stand between Sahan and Matt Holmes who remained unbeaten on 37. Wijeretene went on to score a century on his debut for Claygate finishing on (101*) and Claygate declared on 299 for 3 after 41 over’s.
Tadworth lost two early wickets and at 130 for 5 after 29 overs were not in the hunt. However an easing Dalmore Avenue pitch and a few close LBW shouts ensured Tadworth finished the day on 220 for 5, with Stevenson top scoring with 67*.
It was a good all round performance by the Claygate team which needs a bit more luck to further progress from their third position in the league.
