The Claygate 5 mile run:

Seven finely honed ‘athletes’ from Claygate Cricket Club took part in the annual Claygate ‘Country Five’ cross country run in aid of the new clubhouse.

Undoubted star of the show was Danny Simmons making an appearance in a man-kini, encouraged by a boozy session at the club the night before. Danny was sponsored to the tune of £150 to brave his all on the circuit.

The Claygate runners were led home by Jamie Henderson, wearing his familiar pink and in a superb time of 33 minutes. David Price was second, obviously weighed down by the expectation of heavy sponsorship support.

Event organiser for the club Alun Cope Morgan commented “Despite the disappointment of some no-shows on the day, it was a great effort form the lads and if all the sponsorship money comes in then we hope we will raise about £1000!”

The annual five mile run attracted an entry of some 500 runners, and is organised by the Claygate Flower and Village Show Society. It is really the first event of the Flower Show which takes place text Saturday where the clubhouse development project is also well represented.
